We are a volunteer organization run by parents or guardians of Cummings Valley School students, who work with the teachers and principal to help fill the "gaps" in meeting the needs of our students. We try to bring events to our school that encourage family involvement, so it is supported and successful. Our talents and strengths are varied and valuable, as well as the needs we strive to meet. Each member can bring a unique talent or ability which becomes quite an essential asset. Volunteers of any and all abilities are needed. There are many tasks that can even be completed from home. Currently we have executive board positions that must be filled each year to continue as an organization. Committees help with organizing and volunteering for events and fundraising activities.

MEET YOUR PTO BOARD MEMBERS:
President: Beth Bryant |
The president of PTO must attend and preside over all monthly meetings and general meetings (2 per school year). The president keeps meetings on task according to an agenda, assigns and checks in with committees, and meets with the principal and teacher representatives for updates. A successful president will work very well with others, and be able to manage a group of people while respecting opinions of others. They will also put the abilities and strengths of the volunteers to best use. The President position is a one year position with a two year cap. General elections are held every May.
Vice President: Patty Rowe |
The Vice President (VP) of the PTO must attend all monthly meetings and general meetings (2 per school year). The vice president is the position used as a substitute, if one of the other 3 Executive Board members cannot attend a meeting. They can serve on any committee they choose, and ideally will work closely with the President so the torch can be passed. With projects constantly springing up, we have had plenty of work for the vice president to do. The VP position in a one year position with a two year cap. General elections are held every May.
Assistant Vice President: Traci Cazares |
The AVP position in a one year position with a two year cap. General elections are held every May.
Treasurer: Melissa Fair |
The Treasurer of PTO must attend all monthly meetings and general meetings (2 per school year). The PTO treasurer handles all business accounts and banking. They check the PTO mailbox and make sure bills are paid. They provide a monthly treasurer's report using Quickbooks, and meet with an accountant bi-annually to ensure everything is following tax rules. We rely on our treasurer for the legal documentation that must be filed. In order to be treasurer, you do not have to be an accountant or have a background in accounting (although that helps). A lot of the work can be done from home. A successful treasurer is very organized. You will also need basic computer skills. The Treasurer position in a one year position with a two year cap. General elections are held every May.
Secretary: Michelle Read |
The Secretary of PTO must attend all monthly meetings and general meetings (2 per school year). They must maintain a school calendar of events. The secretary takes notes at all meetings, types them up, and emails them. They are presented at the following meeting to refresh the group. A secretary needs to have a computer at home, and ability to work with a word processing program. The Secretary position in a one year position with a two year cap. General elections are held every May.
Social Media: Shannon Counihan |
The Social Media Manager (SMM) is in charge of maintaining the Cummings Valley PTO Facebook page with weekly posts, and maintain the CVS PTO website (http://www.cummingsvalleypto.weebly.com/) as needed. The SMM should be knowledgeable in social media techniques and have a computer with internet access. Often the SMM will need to take pictures and develop advertisement for various events. The SMM can also assist the Secretary of the PTO in her many tasks, at the discretion of the PTO President. The SMM position in a one year position with a two year cap. General elections are held every May.
PTO Committee Directors:
BOX TOPS Director: Justina Engen |
The BOX TOPS Director is responsible for organizing the BOX TOP movement within the PTO, Staff and Student Body to acquire free money for the school. More information to come.
The PTO group sets broad goals, and works all year to achieve them. This year, our goal is to build a network of parent support and increase communication with parents. We are doing this with Newsletters, Family Events, Emails, Facebook page, this website, and by calling on parents who have expressed an interest in helping. We also set a focus on helping with science and PE at our school this year.
