WELCOME, WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!
LET US SHOW YOU ALL THAT IS NEW
A LITTLE PACKET JUST FOR YOU
OF ALL THE THINGS WE WISHED WE KNEW!
Welcome to CVS!
Bringing your kindergartener to school for the first time is hard enough without
having to try and figure out the ropes. So hoping to make it a little easier,
Here are some tips from the moms on PTO:
GINGERBREAD MEN
Your kinder will come home with a gingerbread man necklace that will have
information on it about them. Please be sure to have them wear this every day for
at least a week. The information is not only for their teachers, but for the
cafeteria staff to learn who they are and where they need to go after school.
Lunch tables are assigned according to how they get home. The cafeteria can get
chaotic and we need to be sure everyone gets where they need to go.
BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Your back to school list is basically a donation to the classroom of
things the teacher needs the most. Later when pencil boxes for the desk come into play,
all that stuff can be labeled for your student. Some teachers like to keep some
of the supplies, like crayons and colored pencils, as a whole class supply.
At kindergarten level, it is a whole class supply.
It is also a good idea to have a homework box at home with pencils, crayons,
scissors, glue sticks, etc. Kindergarten and 1st grade use these things daily
and are usually used for homework too.
DRESSING YOUR KINDER
No open toed shoes or spaghetti strap tops or dresses are allowed.
Shoulder straps must be at least 2" wide.
No shorts or skirts shorter than the arm length of your child arms at their side.
The full dress code will come home in a packet from school.
The weather changes frequently and we have found that keeping a light jacket or
sweater in your child's back pack permanently, really comes in handy. Sunny
mornings can quickly become windy afternoons.
There is a large lost & found bin in the hallway after coming through the gate by
the cafeteria. You can’t miss it. Students and parents are welcome to look for lost
items any time. If anything is unclaimed by Christmas or the end of the school
year, it will be donated to a local charity.
SPIRIT WEAR FRIDAYS
Every Friday at CVS is school spirit day. The kids show their spirit by wearing
black and gold the majority of Fridays. The last Friday of the month is red, white,
and blue day. Spirit wear with our logo can be purchased at the beginning of the
year. Order forms will come home August 26 and are due back by Sept. 9. This is
the only opportunity to order spirit wear. So get it while you can! Don't forget to
order sweatshirts for winter!
DROP OFF & PICK UP FOR KINDERS
TK and Kindergarten classes are all day. Follow the standard drop off
and pick up times for all grade levels. You may walk them to their classroom or you may drop
them at the crosswalk in the parking lot. Drop off by 9:10am.
If you are tardy, come through the office, sign in and get a tardy slip from Mrs. Johnson or Mrs. Solis.
Pick up is at 3:27pm.
ALERT: KINDERGARTEN PICK-UP LOCATION HAS CHANGED THIS YEAR.
ALL K STUDENTS BEING PICKED UP AT 3:27 WILL BE PICKED UP
FROM THE DESIGNATED K PICK-UP AREA INSIDE THE YELLOW GATE.
MINIMUM DAY
When there is a minimum day, drop-off is at 9:10am. Pick-up is at 1:35pm. Please
follow normal pick-up procedures.
VISITORS
You are always welcome at CVS. To come on to campus, come through the office,
sign in (there is a specific book for this), and wear a visitor pass that can be found
in a basket next to the sign in book. Don’t forget to sign out and leave your visitor
pass. If you plan to stay in the classroom for any reason, you must go through the
authorized volunteer process (see below).
STUDENT CHECK OUT
You must come to the office, sign the student check out book and request your
student. For safety, you will be asked to show photo ID.
VOLUNTEERING
Parent help is appreciated and being a part of your child's day is great.
How and the length of time will depend on your teacher.
There are a few things you must do.
1. Attend the volunteer meeting at CVS. Watch for day and times.
2. Do the online safety course.
3. Be fingerprinted if you wish to chaperone field trips. (We highly recommend
doing it this year and getting it over with. They are good for the duration that
your students attends a school in TUSD, K-12!)
This must be done to volunteer in the classroom, attend parties, chaperone fie
ld trips, etc.
BIRTHDAYS
Sharing birthdays at school is welcomed. Usually a song and a birthday treat
brought in and taken care of by the parent are done. Each teacher is different, so
please check with them so it won’t interrupt classroom instruction.
SCHOOL CLOSURES AND DELAYS
In the event of inclement weather, the school district will notify you by phone to
inform you of a delay or closure.

ARIES
Aries is a program where you can see your child’s progress. It is a great tool to
follow your student and keep contact info current. Kinders don’t receive letter
grades and it might not mean much now, but later, Aries will be your best friend
when it comes to keeping track of your students grades. Check it out. Watch for
information with log in instructions to come home.
BOX TOPS
Box Tops for Education are one of the easiest ways to earn free money for our
school. Last year we earned $3,300.00 for our school through box tops. PTO
uses the funds to reimburse the teachers for supplies they bought out of pocket for
their classrooms. This could change from year to year depending on our schools
needs.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Find box tops on hundreds of products.
2. Clip box tops from the packages. Be careful not to cut the date, they do
expire.
3. Send your box tops to school with your student and give them to your
teacher
4. Box tops are worth .10 and add up!
Sign up at btfe.com to find products and track our school’s progress.
PTO
The Purpose: to work with teachers, the principal, and parents to support the
education of our children. We are a nonprofit group of volunteers and it is
definitely a team effort. If you are interested in us and what we do, we would

meet at 9:00 am. We usually meet in room 2. Please look out for our welcome
packets to come home the first week of school for more information and ways to
get involved. We welcome all comments and ideas. We believe the bes
t ideas come from more than one mind and it definitely takes a village! We can always
use extra hands and helpers.
